5 Cool Things about San Antonio and the San Antonio Mom Blogs’ Weekly Link Up for Sept. 9 – 15, 2013

Listing cool things about living in San Antonio, Texas

After last week’s link up post, where it came to light that some people have the wrong impression of San Antonio, I wanted to share my Five Cool Things about San Antonio list. These are just off the top of my head and, as anyone who lives here knows, there are TONS of other cool things about our city.

Now, I want to know from YOU what you think is cool about San Antonio. Leave a comment below with what you love about SA and let’s create a huge list of awesomeness to spread the word about wonderful city!

5 Cool Things about San Antonio:

1. It has a charming small town feel with the amenities of a large, culturally diverse, and thriving city.

2. Tex-Mex (and an ever-expanding, creative culinary scene).

3. We’re planning for the future with programs like SA2020.

4. More and more public schools are offering dual language programs so our children will grow up speaking English and Spanish.

5. Our city is getting healthy. With programs like Síclovía and FitCitySA! we’re stepping out and slimming down.

What do you think is cool about San Antonio? Share your favorite cool things in the comments! And, San Antonio mom bloggers, link up your posts all week long so I can share them out on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and/or Sulia.

  1. Echoing the “small town feel” . . . it’s not six degrees of separation, it’s more like two or three.

Need to solve a problem? Usually, a couple of phone calls later, you’ve found the person with the power to fix it. That’s one of the things I like best about San Antonio.

    • Colleen Pence says:

You’ve hit the nail on the head, Inga. It’s amazing how we really are just two degrees of separation here in SA and everyone loves helping each other out when they can.

  2. I’m pretty sure are 6 things and that 6th thing is me 🙂

  3. I’ve been wanting to do Siclovia but we never seem to make it out!

    • Colleen Pence says:

Tori, you and L will LOVE Siclovia. There will be so much for him to see and do. My kids love it and we try to go whenever it’s happening. Maybe we’ll see you there later this month.

  4. I love the uniquely San Antonian bar-with-playground concept. The Cove and the Friendly Spot are some of my favorite places to go because of the laidback, boisterous atmosphere. As an antidote, the tranquility of the botanical garden. Both kid-friendly.

    • Colleen Pence says:

Those are incredibly cool places in San Antonio, Julie. I love a great spot where parents can relax and actually have a conversation and the kids can run around, play, and be themselves. And the Botanical Garden is a family fave for us too.

  5. It really is amazing how one of the largest cities in the US manages to have such a small town feel.

  6. Beyond our small town charm, I’d add that SA is super friendly! I think this is a very friendly town. I don’t think you realize just how friendly we are until you visit other places.
