Meet Colleen Pence and San Antonio Mom Blogs

Colleen Pence
I’m a life-long learner and lover of marketing, social media, and blogging (and laughing!). I started my company, Social Media Mentoring, in 2008 and I’ve helped businesses (including The Westin La Cantera Resort and the San Antonio Children’s Museum) create social media strategies to capture the attention and revenue of their target markets.

I’m also a mama; a foodie who doesn’t know how to cook; a supporter of non-profits; and a Parrothead. I started my first personal blog in 2005. SanAntonioMomBlogs.com celebrates and supports San Antonio mom bloggers. It’s also where I share my views on life and parenting in the Alamo City.

I’d love to connect with you!

San Antonio Mom Blogs
In June of 2005, while nursing my first-born daughter, I flipped through a parenting magazine. An article about “mommy blogging” caught my eye. I’d heard of “blogs” before and although I kept up with a few in the tech industry, I’d never read a personal blog before. The article focused on a compelling blog about infertility called A Little Pregnant.

With my three-month-old baby in one hand, I typed the URL into my browser with my other and, four hours later, I came up for air with a stiff back and a sweetly-snoozing lump of baby girl on my lap. The blogger, Julie, drew me in with her detailed, clinical accounts of going through in vitro fertilization (IVF) as well as her incredibly honest, witty, and heart-wrending descriptions of what it was like to be infertile. Her blogroll lead me to tons of other mom blogs.

That night I lost all sense of time, immersing myself in the intimate, funny, shocking, and ultimately familiar tales these mothers shared with each other and the Internet. Mom bloggers wrote about the things I was feeling. Their blog posts answered my questions about nursing and sleep training, diaper preferences and making babyfood, and keeping your sense of self and sanity when your life had been tipped upside down forever. They supported each other, created friendships, and began to grow a movement on the Web of smart mothers and writers who didn’t check their brains at the door once their babies were born.

On June 23, 2005, I joined them with The Delaney Diaries where I wrote for several years about being a new mom. But eventually my babies grew into toddlers and then preschoolers. I am no longer a new  mom. Life with two children and starting my own business eventually topped personal blogging in my list of priorities. I retired The Delaney Diaries in 2009 but I kept reading mom blogs. And I found myself, on more than one occasion, searching for a site or a list that gathered San Antonio mom blogs in one place so I could keep up with my favorite local mom bloggers. I didn’t find one so I’ve created one.

San Antonio Mom Blogs combines of my love of parenting and lifestyle blogging and my desire to promote and connect other mom bloggers in San Antonio. I’m lucky to have met several of these fantastic bloggers in person and I hope to meet them all one day soon. The stories they share, the inspiration they give, and the empathy and support they lend each other shines through on their blogs.

If you write a San Antonio mom blog or love one that isn’t on this list, please let me know. I would love to create as comprehensive a list as possible to showcase the great writing and mothers in San Antonio!
