Family-friendly Halloween festivities take place all over San Antonio each year. And the majority of them are free! Little Pumpkins Palooza

This free palooza is perfect for kids of all ages! Your kids will love participating in the costume contest, carnival games, and the pumpkin patch, and listening to music provided by a DJ. If you have gently used costumes, please consider donating them to Catholic Charities in advance of the event to help out kids who don’t have one. San Antonio kids can exchange their Halloween candy for toys at San Antonio Kool Smiles Dental Offices from Friday, October 30 to Wednesday, November 4 during open office hours.
Kool Smiles, a leading provider of quality dental care in San Antonio, is coordinating for the fourth year ‘Operation Troop Treats’, a program that helps give kid’s teeth a post-Halloween break while giving our U.S. troops serving overseas a sweet reminder of their home. The donated candy will be sent in care packages to U.S. troops serving overseas via Operation Gratitude.

Every child that comes in can receive one toy for every 25 pieces of unopened candy in its original intended packaging. The program is open to everyone, regardless of whether they are Kool Smiles patients. There is a limit of three toys per child and toys are distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Costume Contest at 2:00 p.m.: two categories – 3 and under and ages 4-12. The top three finalists in each age category are entered into a drawing to win a Kiddie Park Original Party Package. All finalists receive two unlimited ride bands. And, the first 150 kids to register for the costume contest receive a free cotton candy. Everyone registered received fun prizes for entering. A Spooktacular Halloween in King William (RESCHEDULED)

This sold out event is now rescheduled from Sat., Oct. 24 to Sat., ,Oct 31 and the time has changed to 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Villa Finale is asking people who cannot make it on that day – for surely folks already have plans for Halloween – to call their Visitor Services so a child on the waiting list may attend in their place. Since the event remains sold out, we do not have plans to sell additional admissions.

This event for kids 3 – 12 years of age is located on the grounds of Villa Finale and Steves Homestead, children can celebrate this spooky season by decorating trick-or-treat bags, play Halloween-themed games, enter a screaming contest, march in a costume parade, participate in a “fun dash” trick-or-treat, enjoy snacks and more! There’s even a pie-eating contest for parents. Prizes will be awarded for the scariest, funniest, most creative, parent, and overall costumes. Very family-friendly.

Chipotle’s Halloween fundraiser: Boorito

Get a $3 burrito, bowl, salad, tacos or kids meal for every customers dressed in costume – BUT participants must add an unnecessary element to their costume to get the deal! Think a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle wearing a pink tutu, a black cat with a cowboy hat, a clown wielding a lightsaber. All of these Halloween costumes have something “unnecessary” added to them which is how Chipotle wants to let customers know that unnecessary preservatives and additives found in fast food are super creepy! (Excludes online, iPhone, Android, fax or catering orders. Only one Boorito per person in costume. Promotion valid in all Chipotle restaurants.)

San Antonio Symphony presents Dia de los Muertos (a family concert)

Pre-concert activities, which include an instrument petting zoo with Symphony musicians and other activities, begin at 2:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m., the Symphony peforms works by Ponce, Revueltas, and Moncayo. Wear your favorite Día de los Muertos costume for the Spooktacular Costume Contest – there will be prizes!

Not Free (but still fun!) Halloween events in San Antonio:

Monster Bash at The DoSeum
Saturday, October 31, 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The DoSeum disguises awesome STEM, arts and literacy activities as spooky Halloween fun during Monster Bash. Kids can:

  • Build your own Haunted House: Work with other ghosts and gremlins to create your very own Haunted House!
  • Feel goosebumps rise up on your arms and shivers shoot down your spine as you caress cockroaches, centipedes, and more!
  • Take part in the Costume Parade: You put on the costume, and now’s your time to show it off!
  • Watch demos by the Trinity University Chemsity Club of interactive spooky science projects that you can recreate at home!

General admission for Monster Bash is $12 which covers the cost of museum entry and all Monster Bash activities. Buy your tickets to The DoSeum’s Monster Bash now. Admission is free for Members, but RSVP is required to ensure entry.

SeaWorld’s Howl-O-Scream
Weekends from October 3 – October 31
The park opens at 5:00 p.m. on Fridays and at 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The park closes at 11:00 p.m.

Howl-O-Scream is included with your SeaWorld ticket or pass. During these dates, SeaWorld San Antonio offers expanded daytime Halloween fun for all ages including a NEW Pets Ahoy® show. But after 7:00 p.m., the park gets seriously scary (not suitable for most kids under 13) with horrifying experiences, haunted houses, Halloween-themed bars, shopping, Terror-Tories (designated fright zones with scare squad actors roaming about), and more. Three different Fear Passes are available for additional purchase to take you straight to the front of the lines at these hauntingly horrible attractions.

Fright Fest at Six Flags Fiesta Texas
October 3 – November 1
Each of these operating days, until 5 p.m., the park offers family-friendly Thrills by Day. After 6:00 p.m. the Haunted Houses open. At 7:00 p.m., the Ghouls come out and the haunting Fright by Night transforms the park into a terrifying experience sure to scare the socks off of even the most serious of souls. This year features nine total terrifying haunts, including four brand-new attractions.

Children can participate in the costume contest. All games are 50 cents to play. Tickets to Zoo Boo go on sale starting October 1st, online and at the San Antonio Zoo.

Texas Transportation Museum’s Halloween Spook-Track-ula
PLEASE NOTE: “As you all know, the weather outlook for this weekend is not good. We will make a decision about running “Halloween Spook-Track-Ula” on Saturday around 10 AM. We hope to be able to run it as scheduled that evening but may be obliged to postpone it to the following day, Sunday Oct. 25 or the following Saturday, Oct 31. This family fun event, designed specifically for young children, isn’t too scary. You can ride the Transylvania Express, walk through the “Ghost Train,” and take a haunted train ride.
Tickets are $10 for Adults and $7 for kids ages 2-12. Active duty military rates are $6 for adults and $4 for kids ages 2-12. Or, purchase the Family Special which includes tickets for two adults and up to five kids under the age of 12 for a total of $30. Parking is free.
