Now that our family is fully into back-to-school mode, you’d think we’d have our new schedule down pat. But, we’re still juggling – a lot! – to make the magic happen. Between balancing school and work, homework, extra curricular activities, chores, grocery shopping, and cooking, we haven’t found much time for relaxation and fun.
But then Walmart Grocery asked me to try their free, online grocery pickup service and I suddenly had grand visions of reclaiming those long and lost hours I’d given over to my trips to the grocery store each week.
Now, instead of hectically running up and down the aisles, plopping groceries into my cart and waiting in long lines to pay, I’m sitting on my couch with my laptop, sipping my coffee while clicking and adding items to my online shopping cart. Then, when it’s convenient for me, I drop by Walmart to pick up my groceries. Hours saved and now, fun to be had!
For my first Walmart Grocery shop, I focused on back to school. I needed ideas for easy and healthy breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. When I clicked on the “Shop by Department” drop-down list, I immediately saw Back to School as a category and I took a peek at the suggested items. My kids love vanilla Greek yogurt in their smoothies so I added some to my cart, along with yogurt-covered raisins, baked chips, and cherry tomatoes.
The Walmart Grocery interface is clean, simple, and easy to navigate. Tons of products and brands are available, as is fresh produce and even organic vegetables, fruits, and meats.
After filling my cart with everything from fresh basil to cereal and Milkbones to hair gel, I was ready to check out. If you place your order before 10:00 a.m. you can schedule to pick it up, for free, on the same day. Or, if you’re in a hurry, you can pay an extra $4.95 and pick your order up within 30 minutes (please note: for this expedited service, you must place your order between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. and understand that during peak times or for larger orders, the pick up time may be up to 60 or 90 minutes.).
Once you’ve placed your order, Walmart Grocery suggests a store location that’s nearest to you for pick up (but you can change the location if you need to).
Picking up your groceries is easy! Walmart calls you 15 minutes before the start of your chosen time slot. When you arrive, the pick up area is clearly marked and designated parking spaces are reserved for you. Once you park, call the number on the sign and your groceries are brought out to you, your order is confirmed, and then it’s loaded into your car and you’re on your way.
My groceries were delivered to my car by John, the Walmart Grocery manager for the store near my home. He was kind and helpful and so friendly. His smile was contagious! This service has been available at my Walmart since last November and, it turns out, Sundays are their busiest days. I guess word’s getting around in San Antonio: Walmart Grocery saves you time, time you can now spend having fun with your family.
Oh – and check out the cool gift I received as a thank you for my first order: a tote bag filled with free goodies. Walmart must know the way to my heart is through free stuff (and saving me time and money).
