Schlitterbahn New Braunfels opens for Spring Break

Disclosure: I’ve been invited by Schlitterbahn New Braunfels Resort to receive a complimentary, two-night stay. I was not compensated in any other way. All opinions are mine.

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels for Spring Break

Spring Break is just around the corner (What? I KNOW. How did that sneak up on us?!). With these last few months of crazy cold weather, not only across the nation but also here in normally winter-warm South Texas, our family is ready to say goodbye to the gray and hello to the warm days ahead. We’re staying at the Schlitterbahn New Braunfels Resort as their guests in a few weeks to kick off our Spring Break in smashing, splashing and, hopefully, very sunny style.

Last year I enjoyed a wonderful (and much needed) girls’ getaway weekend as a guest of the Schlitterbahn South Padre Island Resort. Floating down the indoor waterpark’s luxuriously lazy river and strolling along the beach, alone with my (not-interrupted-every-30-seconds-by-my-darling-children) thoughts, was just what I needed to rejuvenate. But, obviously I couldn’t get away with another trip to Schlitterbahn without my kiddos (or they’d divorce me for sure). Now that they’re both in school full-time, I treasure these breaks from our usual routine during which we can play and hang out together as a family. Spending a few laid back days with them at Schlitterbahn’s flagship waterpark in New Braunfels will be a lovely way for us to enjoy some quality outdoor time together.

While each Schlitterbahn location has its own unique personality, they also have several features in common that make them some of the most popular waterparks in the country:

  1. Free parking (For everyone! Always!).
  2. Free use of lifejackets and special kids’ tubes to keep the little ones tucked safely inside.
  3. The ability to bring in your own food and drinks (the only restriction is no alcohol and no glass containers).

I’ve always loved the fact that every Schlitterbahn offers safe and fun water areas for toddlers and kids ages five and under. But now that our children are six and eight, they’re too big for the toddler splash areas yet not quite adventurous enough for the larger slides and rides. My goal for our upcoming visit to Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is to find the attractions that appeal to kids who are 6-12 years of age. During that first weekend of Spring Break, follow my tweets, Instagram pics, and Facebook posts to see what we discover (and share your favorite tween rides with us so we’re sure to check them out). And,  you’ll want to follow the Schlitterbahn New Braunfels Facebook page where they’re giving away family stays at the resort.

Happy almost-Spring Break, y’all. Let’s cross our fingers for a week filled with plenty of South Texas sun!
