SeaWorld's Halloween Spooktacular: non-scary fun for little ones in San Antonio!

Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets to SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular and the Pumpkin Patch Picnic, but all opinions are mine.

My children are on the cusp of becoming big kids. At ages eight and 11, they enjoy some spooky fun around Halloween but they’re not yet ready for the full-on, gruesome, frightfully scary fun offered by SeaWorld’s Howl-O-Scream* (geared for ages 13+) and other haunted houses around town. That’s why SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular is perfect for our family.

During select days through October 30 (see calendar here), families can enjoy Spooktacular, where daytime hours are kid-friendly from opening until 7:00 p.m. when the really scary ghouls come out and the haunted houses, Frightmare Forest, and Blood Thirsty Vampire Bar open for business.

During Spooktacular, kids are encouraged to wear their costumes, but only those 10 and under are allowed to wear masks. Daytime trick-or-treating is offered for kids nine and under (although my 11-year-old gave it a try anyway and had no trouble gathering candy from the kind clerks at the shops in which the Spooktacular trick-or-treating stations are located). And the park is decked out in Halloween style, complete with charismatic pirates, joke-telling skeletons, and more pumpkins than you can count.

Other fun Halloween-themed perks included in your admission are the Halloween Pets Ahoy show, Sesame Street’s, “Who Said Boo?” show with Elmo and the gang, the Hay Maze, the SeaWorld Express train (located by Shamu Theater), and whimsical photo opportunities throughout the park.

Some activities are available for an extra cost, including:

Breakfast with Count Von Count
The Count joins you and your family for a breakfast buffet at Rosita’s Cafe. Your kids will love the photo opportunities with beloved Sesame Street characters who’ll stop by to say hi. Get pricing and details for making reservations for breakfast here.

The Pumpkin Patch Picnic
This lunchtime feast begins with each guest selecting and painting a pumpkin to take home and includes a delicious buffet lunch with sliced beef sandwiches, chicken, smoked sausage, pigs in a blanket, macaroni and cheese, chilled potato salad, and broccoli and cheese casserole. Dessert and Coca-Cola products are also included. For details and pricing and to make your reservation, visit SeaWorld’s website.

Of course, you can also spend the day watching and learning about all sorts of animals (beluga whales, killer whales, sea lions, otters, flamingoes, penguins, tortoises, and many more) in addition to partaking in the Halloween-themed fun. Don’t miss the recently-opened Discovery Point, home to SeaWorld’s fascinating bottle-nosed dolphins.

SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular is fun for the whole family!

* If you’re into really scary fun, stay for Howl-O-Scream (which begins at 7:00 p.m.). I found a coupon for $20 off of admission to Howl-O-Scream on the back of my Taco Cabana receipt!
