The 2014 Girls Inc. Science Fest in San Antonio, Texas

With gorgeous weather finally arriving (to stay?) and tons of activities for families from which to choose, it was another wonderful and busy weekend in San Antonio!

We spent part of Saturday at the Girls Inc. Science Festival. This free, annual event never disappoints. There were so many science, engineering, and technology-related experiments and projects to try (Delaney and I never seem to get through them all but we try!).  We made slime; looked at the sun through four different microscopes; climbed aboard the Geek Bus for a tech tour; made straw rockets; snapped a pic with a Stormtrooper; and learned how to identify how clean water is depending upon what microscopic bugs live in it.

If you didn’t make it out to the Science Fest this year, keep an eye out for next year’s date. When major San Antonio businesses, including USAA and Rackspace, put their money and their employees’ volunteer muscle behind something, you know it’s going to rock! We left the Girls Inc. Science Fest feeling inspired and empowered and my sister and I watched our girls widen the definition of their dreams right before our eyes.

Did you head out into the lovely weather this weekend? Whether you sought bluebonnets or bike rides at Siclovia, I’d love to hear about it and see what you’re blogging about this week. Share your posts below!

  1. Sounds like fun! Wasn’t it the most beautiful weekend?! Our family tried to soak up as much time outdoors as possible.

I am so happy to have found your blog. It is an incredible resource! Thank you so much for sharing all that you do!

    • Thanks, Kelli! I’m so glad I found yours too. I am in love with your recent post on The Pearl and the nods to history you found in so many unique places. I had no idea!

  2. It certainly was a gorgeous weekend. We explored the gardens on Saturday and had a blast at Siclovia yesterday. Man I love this city

  3. Girls in science — makes my heart sing! Going to be so fun when my girls are old enough.

  4. I love this! My older girl had a taste of science/engineering this past month in our homeschooling group, and I cannot wait for her to have similar opportunities when she is a tad older. I love the emphasis our city puts on girls in science!

    • Melissa, this was our second visit to this event. I first took my daughter and niece when they were six and my son was three. They all loved it. I think it’s great for preschool on up!
