This explains a lot, quickly:
Are you familiar with SA2020?
SA2020 is a community vision for the future of San Antonio. It is a list of goals created by the people of San Antonio in 2010 based on their collective vision for our city in the year 2020.
What are SA2020 Resolutions? A great way to get San Antonians involved in making positive changes in our city.
SA2020 Resolutions give you an easy way to make a difference in San Antonio. [On our website] you’ll find a list of all the SA2020 Resolutions for 2014 – each one directly tied to an SA2020 goal – and the Leader who’s committed to making a difference. Pick the one that you’re passionate about, sign up to follow that leader and resolve to transform your City On The Rise. It’s that easy!
When Molly Cox, chief of engagement for SA2020, asked me to be the SA2020 Outdoorsy Resolutions Leader for 2014, I admit: I giggled. Me? Outdoorsy? That’s not the first word people would use to describe me. It’s probably not even the 36th word people would use to describe me.
“But I’m always seeing Instagram photos and Facebook posts of you and your kids outside, and playing in San Antonio parks,” she said.
WAIT… She’s right. We do go to parks. Often! Is it possible I’m an outdoorsy girl and I don’t even know it? I flipped through my iPhoto catalog and was SHOCKED to see tons of photos of my kids and me having fun at parks around town. Maybe we’re the right folks for the job after all.
My family and I pledge to visit 20 parks in 2014 (we’ve already visited three and it’s only January!). I’ll post updates here on my blog and on my Instagram throughout the year about the parks we visit and how we’re selecting them (hint: we’re using this comprehensive list of San Antonio parks). Want to join this challenge with us? Visit our page on the SA2020 website and click “Sign up!” to join us. How cool would it be if we all spent more time in (and appreciating and evaluating) our local parks this year? Besides, I bet visiting parks is something you’re already doing. How hard can it be to get to 20 in one year?
We have such a brief opportunity to pass on to our children our love for this Earth, and to tell our stories. These are the moments when the world is made whole. In my children’s memories, the adventures we’ve had together in nature will always exist.
