Best and Most Effective Way On How To Reheat Roast Beef

Last night was another kitchen mistake! Since roast beef is a treat to my family, who loves beef, I found myself cooking way too much.
I overestimated the amount of food to cook, and now it is coldly lying on my countertop.
Fortunately, there are easy ways to revive its former glory! You can reheat this delicious dish without drying it out.
In my article today, I will be teaching you how to reheat roast beef while retaining its beautiful flavors and texture.

Here Are the Things You Will Need
The methods of reheating roast beef require certain materials, but this will likely depend on the type of beef you reheat or the particular method.
But in general, these are some of the things you need to have.
- Oven
- Microwave
- Air Fryer
- Microwaveable container
- Aluminum foil
- Oil
There are various ways to heat your roast, either heating using foil, heating it in a container, or oil; this will vary on the meat’s doneness as well as the particular method you will choose.
I will further discuss this below.
Identify the Degree of ‘Doneness’ of Your Roast Beef
The roast beef’s degree of doneness will determine how you are going to do the reheating method. Below are the different degrees of doneness.
- Rare Roast Beef. This means the roast beef has been cooked at a temperature of 125F. You can easily identify this with its cool red center.
- Medium Rare Roast Beef. The beef in this one has been cooked at a temperature of 135F. You will find a warm red in its center.
- Medium Roast Beef. While this one has been cooked at 145F and it has a warm pink in the center.
- Medium Well Done Roast Beef. On the other hand, this is cooked at 150F. You will see its center to be slightly pinkish.
- Well Done Roast Beef. This has the highest requirement of temperature at 160F. This has very little pink on it or almost none at all.
The more done the roast beef is, the easier it is to do the reheating. If you are fond of rarely-done roast beef, there is nothing to worry about. I will be teaching you how to reheat roast beef without having to give up your preferred doneness.
Reheating Rare Roast Beef
This one is the trickiest of all. It took me several tries before I could perfect this since reheating normally changes the doneness of your roast beef, which is fine but not if you love it rare.
Here’s how you can reheat rare roast beef without changing its doneness.
- Wrap your frozen or refrigerated rare roast beef with foil.
- Place the foiled roast beef into a microwavable or oven-safe bowl.
- Fill half of the pot with water and bring this to a boil.
- Turn off the heat and place the bowl with roast inside the pot. Do this carefully so the water won’t go into the bowl; reduce the boiled water if you have to.
- Cover the pot and leave this for about five to ten minutes if your rare roast beef is refrigerated but if it is frozen, leave it for 20 minutes.
This is the best way to bring the heat back to your rare roast beef since it does not generate enough heat to cook the beef further, either on the inside or outside.
Reheating Medium Rare Roast Beef
The method above will do for your medium-rare roast beef, but you can also try this oven or microwave method.
Reheating with your oven
- Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit
- Wrap your frozen or refrigerated rare roast beef with foil.
- Put the foil-wrapped roast beef on a baking tray.
- Turn off the oven and place the baking tray with roast beef inside the oven. If your roast beef has been frozen, leave it there for 20 minutes but if it is only chilled, 10 minutes would be enough
What we only need is the generated heat inside your oven; this would be enough to reheat your medium-rare roast without cooking it further.
Using Your Microwave
A little warning when using this method: microwave can make your beef taste dry, so make sure that you only use the lowest heat settings.
- If you foiled wrap your roast beef, then the first thing you should do is remove the foil. It is one of the many things you should never put in the microwave. You should know that putting any metal, even the foil that you use to cover your leftovers can wreck your microwave and could even start a find inside; of course, we do not want this to happen.
- Put the medium-rare roast beef in a microwavable bowl or plate. Add all its juices into it.
- If you are using frozen roast beef, defrost it first by using the defrost settings; set this to 10 minutes.
- Now, set your microwave to its lowest setting and set the timer to 4 minutes.
Reheating Medium Well Done Roast Beef
To reheat a medium well-done roast beef, we will have to cook it at a higher temperature but using less time. This is important so the roast beef will not be dry and will be cooked further inside.
Using Your Oven
- If you are using frozen roast beef, I suggest you defrost it by storing in the fridge the night before you’d like to reheat it.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
- Now, use the foil to wrap the roast beef
- Then reheat it in the oven for three to five minutes.
Using Your Microwave
- For your frozen roast beef, defrost it in the fridge the night before you plan to reheat it.
- Remove the foil of the roast beef.
- Remove the foil first from the roast beef and place it in a microwavable bowl or plate. Add all its juices into it.
- Set the temperature to high and allow it to reheat for 3 minutes
Reheating Well Done Roast Beef
Well-done roast beef is the easiest one to reheat since it has already been cooked well. You don’t have to worry about losing its moisture or juices.
You can choose between the microwave and oven methods and follow the steps I’ve mentioned above, but if you don’t have both, you can also use the air fryer method, which I will introduce below. However, note that you can only use this method if the meat is well-done, or you will be overcooking the beef, and its flavor and texture will be altered.
Using your air fryer
- Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees Fahrenheit
- Evenly spread the oil to the surface of your air fryer
- Put your roast beef on the pan
- Start reheating your beef for about 3 minutes or until you will start to see a heavy amount of smoke coming out of the beef.
